We Are All Connected … Through Our Hearts

by | Aug 15, 2012

There’s a wealth of new science that’s suggesting the reality of an invisible web of energy that’s connecting all of existence.

This invisible, omnipresent connecting medium has been described by a variety of names, including: Zero Point Field, Divine Matrix, Holy Spirit, Collective Consciousness, and the Field.

Experiments that delve into the nature of this invisible connecting medium have been conducted at leading universities and at research facilities around the world.

For example, cells scraped from my tongue can be shipped across town and will still respond electrically (and immediately) to any intense emotion that I experience. Another example is that the electromagnetic field produced by my heart will register in the brain waves of other human beings in the same room with me.

On a more global scale, the HeartMath Institute has shown that the ionosphere reflects earthly human emotion. Their measuring instruments reflected dramatic changes in the ionosphere in the minutes following the 9/11 attacks on Manhattan.

The implications of this science (and what many of us sense intuitively) is that we are all connected in some way and that what we think, and believe, and do really does matter on a more global scale.

A very practical piece of advise about how to nurture this connection comes from the experience of Peter Campbell and Edwin McMahon, Focusing teachers and founders of the Institute for BioSpiritual Research.

They share that as young men they knew their personal mission was to support the ‘peace’ movement. Would they march in the streets and carry posters?

They realized that if they could teach an individual to give voice to their habitually suppressed, less than desirable inner parts, through the Focusing process, that that individual could live more peacefully in their own skin, and would be less inclined to project their own fear, mistrust, and anger onto others.

The integration of the self that this process supports would bring a person into more meaningful contact with themselves, others and the environment. When we really feel our connection with the rest of creation it becomes more and more difficult to do harm because it’s just too painful. It hurts.

Less harm … more peace.

There is a growing list of heart centered practices for you to choose from. The two that I am most familiar with are the HeartMath tools and Somatic Focusing, which you can find guides for here.

Other heart centered practices that I’m familiar with include: Mindfulness Meditation, Centering Prayer, Contemplative Prayer, and Metta Meditation.
