Laser Acupuncture Lights Up Your Brain

by | Feb 5, 2019

Laser acupuncture has been shown to have very specific influences on brain function, via functional MRI imaging, akin to the brain stimulating influences observed with the traditional needling of points.

There are two points around this research on laser acupuncture that are exciting to me. The first is that laser stimulation of acupuncture points on the skin influences brain function in a positive manner. The second is that an inexpensive laser can be used by you, at home, to influence your physical health and emotional well-being.

Responsible self-treatment is becoming more scientifically validated, as well as more accessible … in terms of the needed knowledge and practices.

Those of you who are familiar with this blog know that my main interest is in sharing the science and practices that empower self-healing. Most of what I share involves the fine-tuning of somatic, or bodily awareness to restore order to the brain and nervous system while activating self-healing mechanisms …. like the vagus nerve.

The challenge of using inner awareness as a healing strategy is that it requires time, patience, and practice to master. The fact that it’s even possible is close to a miracle. Here’s where laser acupuncture fits it. While you’re taking the time to learn the inner, self-regulation skills, you can also be using the laser like a pro on a daily basis to support your healing and well-being.

If you’d like to know more about laser acupuncture the information is available here. Two earlier posts focused exclusively on laser acupuncture. Laser Acupuncture Mimics Your Body’s Wisdom takes a look at the role that photons play in the body’s regulatory processes and more. The second post teaches a simple and effective laser routine that you can use at home in The L.A.A.S.E.R. Protocol Mini-Course.

Overcoming Obstacles to Healing

Whether we choose to use the laser, inner attention skills, or both, the biggest challenge to healing ourselves lies within. The challenges involve having the belief that healing is possible and then choosing to act on that belief by taking constructive action. Both of these steps require the engagement of your brain’s pre-frontal cortex. Unfortunately, when we’re lost in the stress response we’re unconscious and these parts of our brain are off-line, leaving us oblivious to our healing possibilities.

Here’s a strategy for overcoming the unconscious, stress-induced habit of remaining unconscious …. even though some part of us knows better.

  • Set a specific time for practicing your self-regulation skills. For example, know that every morning at a specified time and place you’ll begin your practice. Another helpful tactic is to practice checking in with yourself every hour. Once an hour you can attune to your bodily state … notice if you’re tight, anxious, impatient, etc. and take one slow breath …. that’s it. Over time you’ll train your brain to function more and more from the conscious centers.

I hope that this information supports you in terms of the knowledge and the practical skills you need for self-healing.
