Researchers have found that amyloid beta … the protein that contributes to the development of Alzheimer’s disease … was excreted from the brain most efficiently during sleep.
A recent study available on the NIH website shows that when we sleep our breathing becomes more balanced and contributes to the more efficient cleansing of our brain by the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
What this study obviously suggests is that sleep is a vital component for healing … and not just a luxury to be indulged on a Saturday morning.
It also suggests that proper breathing (slow and full) … even when awake … most likely contributes positively to the flow of CSF and enhances the health of our brain.
Breathe.
